Welcome to Givewell's Project Spotlight. Each month we highlight a project for which a charity is currently seeking funds. We also provide details on how to give directly for this project.
Project description: "Skip a Treat" for Save the Children. Over 100 million children across the world are missing out on school. Millions more are receiving a substandard education. Yet all children have the right to a good education, whatever their circumstances. Save the Children Week takes place from 1 - 7 May, 2006 and "Skip a Treat" throughout the month of May, will focus awareness through schools and corporations nationally on the plight of children around the world and the difficulties they encounter in trying to gain an education. We're asking friends and colleagues at work or school to "Skip a Treat" for a week, and donate the money they would normally spend to Save the Children. The cost of a bunch of flowers could cover a teachers' salary in Sri Lanka for a month … instead of coffee, you could provide 6 children in Laos with school notebooks … do without take-away for a night and buy a blackboard to help 50 children in Sudan. A little treat can make a big difference. Get friends and co-workers involved now. Is there an allowance for administration costs? N/A.
