Welcome to Givewell's Project Spotlight. Each month we highlight a project for which a charity is currently seeking funds. We also provide details on how to give directly for this project.
Background Information: February’s catastrophic bushfires in Victoria have resulted in the devastating loss of human life and property, but it is less clear what the toll will be for local animals. Experts estimate that more than 1,000,000 animals have fallen victim to the bushfire tragedy, with even more thousands of native, livestock and domestic animals not killed now facing the threat of starvation and loss of habitat. RSPCA shelters and inspectors have been working around the clock to provide emergency assistance to animals affected by the bushfires. “The impact is devastating - on people, animals and wildlife - these are not normal times or conditions ...the scale of the disaster is overwhelming,” RSPCA CEO Chief Maria Mercurio said. Appeal Description: RSPCA Victoria extends its sincerest thanks to the Australian community for its generous donations of food, blankets, towels, leads and toys for those animals in need. It has now received enough food, blankets and towels to support its work over the coming weeks and is well equipped to care for animals both at its shelters and in the bushfire areas. The greatest need at RSPCA Victoria is now financial donations to support its emergency relief work. 100% of donations will support animals affected by bush fires. RSPCA on the ground: what is being done to assist animals in need?
