Welcome to Givewell's Project Spotlight. Each month we highlight a project for which a charity is currently seeking funds. We also provide details on how to give directly for this project.
Project description: In 2005 PACT has been invited to participate in a highly prestigious International Youth Arts Festival in Bremen, Germany. Explosive! Festival is being presented by Kulturzentrum Schlachthof and has been running for 10 years. It provides an international platform for young artists to participate in cultural exchange and share work practices. The Festival seeks out diverse international work that uses performance to investigate important social and ethical issues. PACT will present Suspect - a new performance work, which was performed in Sydney in December 2004. A professional team of cross-disciplinary artists collaborated with 14 young performance makers to create a world of intrigue, gadgets, thrills and spies. Suspect tackles 'the surveillance issue', looking at voyeurism, narcissism, racism, liberty and security. Performers and audience occupy a 'watched' space, surrounded by CCTV cameras and hidden microphones. The work draws heavily on film-noir with characters creating an atmosphere of slink, sleaze and suspicion. Underneath this tongue in cheek veneer, is a darker Orwellian tone, heightened by recent new 'anti terrorist laws' in Australia. PACT needs funds to provide return airfares for the 14 young participants involved in the project - about $28,000. Can donors/grant makers give directly for this project? Yes If so, how? Contact PACT. Is there an allowance for administration costs? No. Contact details for further information: |
