Welcome to Givewell's Project Spotlight. Each month we highlight a project for which a charity is currently seeking funds. We also provide details on how to give directly for this project.
'Quality of Life' is a phrase often described as something intangible that is gained from making a tangible improvement (eg adding a wheelchair access pathway to an elevated store entrance) in the lives of individuals who live day-to-day with a disability. For the Australian Quadriplegic Association, the idea of 'Quality of Life' is directly relevant in that it is our organisation's mission "to ensure that the social and physical environment enables people with quadriplegia and similar physical disabilities to be full participating members of society." The Quality of Life Raffle is a promotion designed to increase awareness and recognition of AQA, and to raise much-needed funds for the numerous services provided by AQA, including Accommodation, Personal Support, Advocacy, Counseling, Access Consultancy, and many others. With spinal cord damage, people's homes are often no longer accessible and their lives irrevocably changed. Sufferers are forced to relearn abilities we take for granted like eating, and even breathing. Many are dependent on a 24-hour ventilator for the rest of their lives. As you can imagine, coping with a disability this severe is extremely financially debilitating. Tickets for the Raffle will be sold at $2 each from July thru October 2002, with a 'lifestyle' grand prize to be granted to the winner. Can donors /grantmakers give directly for this project? Yes If so, how? Raffle tickets can be purchased from: Australian Quadriplegic Association Suite 209, Bridgegate House 410 Elizabeth Street Surry Hills, NSW 2010 Is there and allowance for administration costs? Yes, of around 3%. Contact details for further information: Christina Green, Promotions Officer, Tel (02) 9281 8214, E-mail: christina@aqa.org.au |
