Welcome to Givewell's Project Spotlight. Each month we highlight a project for which a charity is currently seeking funds. We also provide details on how to give directly for this project.
Project description: This month's project spotlight was a finalist in Givewell's 2006 Best Community Project Award, presented at Ethical Investor's 6th Australian Sustainability Awards in Sydney in December 2006. The project 'Career Path' offered by ParaQuad gives sole parents and parents with any type of disability the opportunity to undertake Certificate 111 in Disability Work while recognising transferable skills developed in their parenting role. The project helps sole parents and parents with disabilities get back into the workforce. As many existing traineeship models are for a 15 hrs week minimum, this can be very difficult for parents to work around their family commitments. The project not only gives its trainees a chance to join the workforce at the times they can fit in with their parenting, it also helps ParaQuad to employ more carers if the trainees elect to work with ParaQuad. The project provides literacy and numeracy support to those with an identified need and participants with special learning needs are also catered for. On completion of the program, participants are offered career planning and advice on further training options. The project is run to a traineeship model, with work placement and work-based assessment combined with classroom learning. The project is audited for compliance with the Australian Quality Framework Standards. ParaQuad Victoria is an accredited training organisation, training attendant carers for the past seven years. Can donors/grant makers give directly for this project? Yes If so, how? Donations to 'ParaQuad Victoria' are tax deductible. To make a donation:
