The role of a Givewell Charity Profile is to give a donor, volunteer or grantmaking body a more detailed, concise understanding of their charity of choice or to find out about organisations which work on the cause they wish to support.
There is no mystery attached to the reports. The format has been developed after referring to donors, industry experts and similar reports available overseas. Each report is presented in the same format. Most information is derived from publicly available sources including the annual report, the internet, reference material and our discussions with the charity.
Although Givewell independently prepares each report, it is sent to the organisation for review, correction and approval.
We do not charge organisations to be listed on our database. Our income comes from the users of the information, ie. the subscribers to the Givewell Research Centre.
Finally, there are no recommendations or Givewell opinions expressed in the reports. Our role is to independently summarise, consolidate and present the facts on each organisation in a consistent format. The choice of charity or cause lies solely with the donor.
