2ND EDITION OF THE GOOD GIVING GUIDE

The Good Giving Guide, first published by Penguin Group (Australia) in 2008, is the first book of its kind and aims to inspire readers to give, or give more, to non profit organisations and charities. It includes practical tips on individual giving, setting up trusts, business giving and corporate volunteering, along with Givewell's in-depth analysis of one hundred key Australian charities.

Written by Lyn Amy and Mary Pearce, with fundraising and financial information supplied by Givewell, the premise of this in-depth guide is that more people would give if they had more information about the charities and how best to support them. The first edition of The Guide was launched in 2008 in conjunction with the announcement of the Givewell Good Giving Guide Charity Award Winners, with a second edition now underway to be released in June 2010.

The 2010 edition of The Good Giving Guide will provide the reader with the latest information about charitable giving in Australia including up to the minute research on bequest giving and PAFs (Private Ancillary Funds). The authors have responded to reader queries around the subject of fundraising and forms of giving. This second edition focuses on the benefits of giving to the health and well being of children and young people, with examples of programs that are working to engage young people in philanthropy.

The authors have been fortunate to interview many key philanthropists and to find out what it is that inspires them to get involved in charitable pursuits. Dame Elisabeth Murdoch has included a message to the children of Australia in the introduction, and a copy of the book will go to every school in Australia. Profiles of top charities in a range of categories are included, and the book will be embargoed to coincide with the announcement of the Givewell Good Giving Guide Charity Awards.

Penguin books will mount a national publicity campaign on release in June 2010 and the book is fast becoming a must have read for philanthropists, trusts and foundations, business leaders, community groups, charities, donors and anyone involved in giving.

Full details of the awards process, criteria and previous winners are available on this page, along with detailed background information and media releases regarding both the awards and the book.
